Performance of ERICA and QFC for Transporting

In ATM networks, the Available Bit Rate (ABR) service enables data sources to ee-ciently utilize network resources without adversely aaecting the performance of non-ABR, guaranteed traac such as video. Most research to date on ABR performance has not used realistic assumptions. Unrealistic assumptions such as persistent data sources and no non-ABR traac, as well as poor TCP models may lead to misleading results. In this paper, we address the above shortcomings of previous research. In a comparison of two major ABR schemes, the rate based ERICA and the credit based QFC, we nd that the performance may be signiicantly better with QFC than previously thought when bursty traac sources and bursty interfering traac is considered.
